Lesson 2 — Korean Vowels (모음) Grammar

Grammar 1: 이 / 가 (Subject Particle)

The particles 이 and 가 mark the subject of a sentence.

이 → after a consonant 가 → after a vowel

Examples

한글이 쉽습니다.

Hangul is easy.

The student came.

Grammar 2: 을 / 를 (Object Particle)

The particles 을 and 를 mark the object of a verb.

을 → after a consonant 를 → after a vowel

한글을 배웁니다.

I learn Hangul.

Grammar 3: 이것 / 그것 / 저것 (This / That)

Korean	Meaning
이것	This
그것	That (near the listener)
저것	That over there

Examples

이것은 책입니다.

This is a book.

Grammar 4: 뭐예요? (What is it?)

Used to ask what something is.

Pattern

Noun + 뭐예요?

What is this?

Grammar 5: Simple Present Tense (Polite)

Many Korean dictionary verbs end with -하다 ("to do"). In polite speech, they often become -합니다.
