Asking the Time

To ask the current time in Korean, use the following question.

Question

지금 몇 시입니까?

Meaning:

What time is it now?

Answers

지금 한 시입니다.
It is 1:00.

지금 다섯 시입니다.
It is 5:00.

지금 열 시입니다.
It is 10:00.

Vocabulary

Telling the Hour

The hour uses Native Korean numbers.

Notice that some Native Korean numbers change slightly when used with 시.

Examples:

하나 → 한

둘 → 두

셋 → 세

넷 → 네

Telling the Minutes

Minutes use Sino-Korean numbers.

Examples

한 시 십오 분
1:15

세 시 삼십 분
3:30

여덟 시 오십 분
8:50

Common Time Expressions

Here are some useful time expressions.

Examples

오전 아홉 시입니다.
It is 9:00 A.M.

오후 세 시입니다.
It is 3:00 P.M.

저는 아침 여섯 시에 일어납니다.
I wake up at 6:00 in the morning.
